THE HOUSE'S STORIES

Animals · our very first guestsBowls, a litter tray, a paw towel all ready. Dogs and cats, more than one too, with no supplement.

At La Tana your dog (or cat, or more than one) is a guest in every sense — in fact, often the first one we prepare things for. No supplement, no strange rules, no off-limits room. A house is a house: your animal needs a home, not a hotel.

  1. 01

    What you'll find ready

A bowl for water, one for food, a litter-bed cushion in the living room, a dedicated towel for paws after the garden. If you need other things (a scoop, bags, an extra blanket) just say so on arrival — almost always we already have them.

  2. 02

    Indoors, make yourselves at home

On the sofas, on the beds if your pet is used to that, on the rugs — it's up to you. We're the last people to get cross if we find a hair or a piece of kibble on the floor: it happens at our place too, we live with animals.

  3. 03

In the garden · one small courtesy for the rabbits

A family of three rabbits lives in the garden: Bing (the father), Ichigo (the mother) and Disney (the now-grown daughter) — free on the lawn (see also /casa/conigli). For their safety we ask that the dog stays on the lead for the whole time in the garden, not just the first few minutes. It isn't mistrust: we've already had a rabbit die after an interaction with a guest's dog — the dog probably had no predatory intent, but the physical contact was enough. Since then the rule has been clear: always on the lead. Inside the house the dog is as free as at home. We know that a garden on the lead doesn't quite live up to the '100% dog friendly' label — but the rabbits are a permanent part of the house, they aren't shut away, and for many families they're one of the reasons they choose us. In the historic centre of San Benedetto, La Tana remains one of the few houses with a real garden a dog can so much as set foot in.

  4. 04

Leaving your pet alone at the house

You can, with no trouble. In fact: in a real house your animal is far calmer than in a hotel room — it recognises the smells, it has its own corner, it senses the rhythm of the house. You can go out to dinner without a second thought.

  5. 05

For walks · what to always carry

Italian law requires you to carry a lead no longer than 1.5 m and a soft muzzle whenever you go out with your dog in town. In San Benedetto there's an additional local police rule: you must carry a small bottle of water and rinse away each time the dog urinates. All the details — plus the dog-friendly places, the dog beach and the recommended vets — in the guide below.

Dog beach · vets · Parco Bau

Since 2024, San Benedetto has had a dog beach — informally known as the Spiaggia dei Funai, after the pine wood of the same name — located north of the north pier, on the border with Grottammare. Plus the fenced Parco Bau in the centre, and two veterinary clinics less than 2 km away (one open 24h). All the details, directions and contacts in the dedicated guide below.
