Every year some of our guests come to San Benedetto for a medical reason: a relative admitted to the Madonna del Soccorso Hospital, a specialist outpatient appointment, a post-operative check-up. It's a situation that calls for a house that is quiet, close and predictable — no rigid reception hours, no internal stairs, with a garden where you can sit for ten minutes after a difficult day. This page gathers everything you need to organise the stay.
Distance from the house to the hospital
The Madonna del Soccorso Hospital is at Via Silvio Pellico 68, about 600–700 metres from our house at Via Risorgimento 43 — 8–10 minutes on foot, on the flat. By car it's 3–4 minutes (paid parking within the hospital grounds). For anyone accompanying a patient several times a day, this distance is the real reason for choosing La Tana: you can go home for lunch, go back to rest, return before the evening visit, without ever having to take the car.

Tourist-tax exemption on medical grounds
The Tourist Tax Regulation of the Comune of San Benedetto del Tronto (approved by the Town Council under resolution no. 191 of 29 October 2024) explicitly provides for exemption from the tax for:
- Those caring for patients admitted to healthcare facilities within the municipality.
- Parents and companions of admitted minors (under 18) — up to a maximum of two people per patient.
- Non-self-sufficient people with disabilities, with appropriate medical certification, and their companion.
- Patients receiving treatment at healthcare facilities in the Comune (day hospital, day surgery, scheduled specialist appointments).
To claim the exemption, we ask you to bring with you, at check-in, documentation attesting to the medical reason: a letter of admission for the relative (issued by the ward), a specialist outpatient appointment (CUP booking / referral), or a statement from the healthcare facility confirming your role as a companion. Without a document we can't apply the exemption — it isn't us being rigid, it's the rule under which we then file the exemption declaration with the Comune each quarter. A photo of the document is enough, even on WhatsApp.

- Parking at the hospital: the hospital grounds have paid parking. For long stays and repeated visits it's better to park in the town (blue zone or free depending on the area — see our parking guide) and walk the 8–10 minutes.
- Open and on-duty pharmacies: there are several in town; the on-duty pharmacy (overnight and on holidays) changes each week — the up-to-date rota is on the official site of the Comune of San Benedetto. If you arrive late and need a pharmacy straight away, message us on WhatsApp.
- Getting there from the house: the walking distance (8–10 minutes) is flat — anyone able-bodied walks it; anyone less mobile prefers a taxi or the car. On our Getting around SBT page you'll find the numbers for local taxis.
Before you book · write to us
If you're organising a stay for medical reasons we ask you to write to us first (WhatsApp or email — the contacts are at the bottom of every page). Help us understand the situation: who's travelling, whether there are mobility limitations, whether anything special is needed. We can often: bring the check-in forward if the house is free the day before (see /faq #14), make up the living-room bed for someone coming back tired from the hospital in the afternoon, point you to an open pharmacy when you arrive late. They're small things, but at a difficult time they make the difference.
Tourist-tax exemption: remember to bring the documentation of the medical reason (admission letter, CUP booking, facility statement). A photo on WhatsApp before check-in is enough for us — we handle the rest.
