La Tana is right in the historic centre of San Benedetto del Tronto, on the Adriatic line. It's easy to reach by every kind of transport — below are the details to help you choose the most convenient way from wherever you're setting off.
By train · the easiest way for many of you
San Benedetto del Tronto station is 650 metres from the house, about nine minutes on foot along an avenue that crosses the centre. Both regional and fast trains (Frecciabianca, Frecciarossa) stop here along the whole Adriatic line. For tickets and timetables: Trenitalia (Frecciarossa, Frecciabianca, Intercity, regional) and Italo (private high-speed). If you're travelling from abroad, you can also search on Thetrainline , which brings Trenitalia and Italo together in a single search engine.
- From Milan: about 4h–4h30 on a direct Frecciarossa along the Adriatic line (the trains for Bari/Lecce/Taranto stop at SBT). With a change at Bologna on the slower services, 5h–6h.
- From Bologna: 3h on a Frecciarossa or Frecciabianca, usually direct.
- From Rome: the train isn't the best choice — there are no efficient direct connections, and the routes with a change (via Bologna or Ancona) involve unreasonable journey times and waits. For Rome, the direct coach is the better bet (see the 'By coach from Rome' section below).
- From Pescara: 1h on a regional train.
- From Ancona: 1h on a regional train or Frecciabianca.

The A14 (Adriatica) motorway runs right above the town. Two good exits:
- From the north: exit at Grottammare, then about 3 km south on the SS16 to the centre of San Benedetto
- From the south: exit at San Benedetto del Tronto, then about 3 km to the centre along the same SS16
The historic centre is a blue (paid) zone at peak times (from June to September, every day, 09:00–24:00, €1.50/h). It's best to drop your luggage outside the house and look for parking at your leisure afterwards — our dedicated guide has the map and the nearby free car parks.

OpenBy plane · the nearest airports
San Benedetto has no airport of its own. Five useful airports, in order of distance:
- Abruzzo Pescara (PSR) · about 75 km · 50 minutes by car · 1h on a regional train from Pescara Centrale station.
- Marche Ancona Falconara (AOI) · about 75 km · 50 minutes by car · 1h–1h15 on a regional train from Falconara Marittima station.
- Bologna Marconi (BLQ) · about 270 km · 2h45 by car · 3h on a Frecciarossa from Bologna Centrale (the airport is linked to Bologna Centrale by the Marconi Express in 7 minutes).
- Rome Fiumicino (FCO) · about 230 km · 2h30 by car · the direct coach is the better bet from the airport to SBT (Frecciaroma, Gaspari and others — see the coach section): the train involves inefficient changes via Roma Termini. Rome has two airports: Fiumicino usually handles intercontinental flights and the larger European routes.
- Rome Ciampino (CIA) · about 230 km · 2h30 by car · the low-cost airport (mainly Ryanair and Wizz Air). From here too the direct coach is the better bet (Gaspari runs the route from the airport): the train involves a transfer to Roma Termini and then changes that simply aren't worth the time.
By coach from Rome · a direct alternative
Several companies run the direct route from Fiumicino airport or Roma Tiburtina to San Benedetto, with a stop in Piazza Nardone, 200 metres from the house. It's often more convenient than the train if you're arriving with suitcases and children: a single journey, one piece of luggage in the hold, no changes.
The companies that have long run this route:
- Start spa · the main scheduled operator for Le Marche and the Ascoli area · the Roma Tiburtina – San Benedetto line via the Salaria, from €10. Several departures a day.
- Frecciaroma · a direct line from Roma Tiburtina + Fiumicino airport to the whole Adriatic coast · mostly a seasonal service (late March – September).
- Marozzi · a long-established carrier based in Puglia, which also runs Rome–Marche–Abruzzo routes.
- Flixbus · the European low-cost operator, with frequent services.
- ItaBus · an Italian high-speed coach operator, with superior comfort.
- Gaspari · direct lines from the Rome airports (Fiumicino, Ciampino) and from Roma Tiburtina to SBT, L'Aquila, Avezzano and Teramo. Handy if you land in Rome and are heading to the Adriatic without going via the station.
- RomaMarche is also mentioned locally among the regional carriers — though not always with a website of its own. For a full comparison, an aggregator is the way to go.
