In the garden, as well as the three free-roaming rabbits on the lawn, there's a blue aviary where the budgerigars live. They let you come close and watch them — they're one of the corners children love most — but they stay inside the aviary. It's their space and their safety.

Come up slowly, sit down, watch
Come up unhurriedly, sit or crouch at the level of the aviary, speak softly: after a few minutes they stop standing guard and go back to their own things — seeds, water, little flights inside. For anyone travelling with children it's one of the garden's best-loved corners.

Please don't open the little door
From an outdoor aviary, a budgerigar that gets out is lost within seconds: it doesn't know how to come back and it's dangerous for it. Even half-opening it for a moment is a risk. The feed, the water and everything else, we take care of.

No food from outside
The same rule as the rabbits: no bread, fruit or seeds taken from your own lunch. They have their own feed and the wrong addition can do them harm. If you'd like to watch them eat or know how we look after them, just ask on arrival.
